Here's a fun fact for ya: Ben Cohen, one half of the team who started Ben & Jerry's (with childhood friend Jerry Greenfield), has anosmia (no sense of smell), which greatly influences how he perceives flavor. So it's surprising that he went into the business of manufacturing ice cream. He's made the most of his shortcoming, relying on "mouth feel" and texture for his dietary needs, while spurring the inclusion of his company's trademark chunks in their ice cream. He and Greenfield opened their first ice cream parlor in 1978, and offered a dozen flavors. Today, there are nearly 6,000 Ben & Jerry's locations around the world, not to mention all the stores that now carry pints of their product, and more than 60 flavors at any given time.

The point of this post? It's Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry's, which means you can walk in and get a free scoop at any Seattle-area location that tickles your fancy. It's happening from noon until 8 pm today at their Green Lake, Kirkland, Bellevue, Southcenter, and Issaquah locations.
