Earlier this month, Nancy, a podcast about queer stuff out of WNYC Studios, did an episode revisiting The L Word, a Showtime series that aired from 2004-2009. The L Word was a delicious, terrible soap about a group of LA lesbians (most of whom, naturally, were played by straight women), and queer women loved it. The show was great at times, flawed at others, and even though it absolutely does not stand the test of time (the "lesbian man" would not fly in 2017), plenty of us still talk about it on a regular basis. (The last time it came up in conversation was just two weeks ago—at, ahem, a lesbian wedding—where we reminisced about watching The L Word at lesbian bars on Sunday nights or, later, in six-minute clips uploaded to YouTube.)

Nancy co-host Kathy Tu had somehow reached adulthood without subjecting herself to The L Word, so she watched all six seasons (63 hours!), and then caught up with some of the actors, including Dana, Jenny, and Carmen (Sarah Shahi). Carmen, kindly, explained what was going on in the infamous toilet scene, which I'm not going to embed here because my mom reads this:

Mia [Kirshner] and I had this thing where we're supposed to be making out on a toilet, post showering, and either she pees on me or I piss on her and it's so powerful, it's such a hard, streamlined piss, that it's supposed to give the other one an orgasm. Like, it's supposed to hit our clits and give us an orgasm.

Oh, so that's what that was! And I thought she just really had to pee. Maybe they'll reprise this creative technique in The L Word sequel, which Showtime announced in July.

If you're a fan of The L Word—and how could you not be—the podcast is worth a listen. You'll get to hear some voices you love, and Jenny.
