"Despite its name, normal, working-class neighbors did not pool their money to pay for Elliott Bay Neighbors,"
The top 5 contributors to Elliot Bay Neighbors include Dunn Lumber and Saltchuck, both of which have pretty substantial operations in D1. These same businesses are also in the top 5 contributors to University Neighbors, and, again, have substantial operations in D4.
These aren't "big banks, real estate moguls, and MAGA diehards," they are local businesses.
Repeat after me: Independent Expenditure campaigns are independent of candidates.
Repeat after me: It is illegal for Independent Expenditure campaigns to coordinate with candidates.

Funny how when amazon execs donate to centrists they show the candidate is bought. When amazon execs donate to candidates "Hannah" likes they are lauded.
Buried deep in this article is a not-so-subtle hint about just how little help money can provide in political races:
“…unions shelled out hundreds of thousands of dollars to support Lorena González’s failed mayoral campaign and to keep their fav Council Member Teresa Mosqueda on the dais.”
On election night, González was down by thirty percentage points, and Mosqueda was up by three. In the latter case, her opponent had no name recognition, no ground support, and almost no money. González went on to lose by 18 points, ending her political career, and Mosqueda isn’t waiting around for a well-funded challenger.
Maybe the unions are not supporting ObeySumner because of their policy positions, not because of their identity? Union members live in Seattle too. They see the damage that’s been done by the far left.
Hannah's embedded tweet is yet another example of The Stranger's absolutely relentless message discipline rabbit-holing the 2021 election. It waves away criticism of candidates supporting defunding the police by describing it as what is demanded by the people. Never mind the 2021 elections, where candidates that supported defunding SPD were crushed at the polls. Nope, it's what the people want! Just ignore how they actually voted.
The Stranger's continued descent into the mirror image of Fox News where it over and over again lies and assumes its readers are too stupid to know the difference remains deeply disappointing.
@11 to be fair there is plenty of evidence there is a large group of low information voters who swallow TS propaganda hook, line and seeker. One only look at the fact that a deeply flawed candidate like NTK made it to the general and garnered over 40% of the vote in 2021 to see how much influence they have in the city. It’s both sad and scary.
@12: Seattle’s voters dumped Pete Holmes, a multiple-term incumbent, in the primary. The Stranger’s pretensions notwithstanding, NTK was just the incumbent all over again, but without the establishment funding or message. Thus, NTK was the status quo candidate in the general election, and she lost to a Republican. Unsurprisingly, she didn’t lose by much, but for Seattle’s voters to elect a Republican for the first time in decades showed just how badly voters believed the City Attorney’s office had been run.
@13 I think if Holmes had been in the general he would have won. TS pulled votes from Holmes in the primary (with lower turnout) and got NKT to the general. When faced with a choice of complete anarchy or some semblance of sanity voters chose the latter but as you noted it was close. I think we’ll see a similar result play out this year in D5 when voters will reject the intersectional and radical Stranger choice for a more pragmatic candidate. I’m more concerned about D1, D2 and D4 where I think a lot of naive people will once again be fear mongered by TS into choosing terrible representatives.

You act as if the label Neighbors wasn't a red flag that it's a corporate front.

Why is Sara Nelson contributing to city council candidates and political committees?
@9: Uh, because she’s a citizen of Seattle, and thus has the right to participate in the political process?
