Why did a young man named Jack Chapman, aka Pup Tank, die suddenly? Is his master, Dylan Hafertepen, to blame?

Master Dylan and his pups shared numerous images on social media of their engorged scrotums, dramatically increased in size due to liquid silicone injections. Levi Hastings

1

Some seriously disturbed people.

2

Injections are for medicine.

3

@1 STOP KINK SHAMING! Pups are good people and no one in this story deserved to be abused and manipulated by someone that should be caring for them. The only person here who's disturbed is YOU for wanting to bring the NHL to Seattle you DISGUSTING PSYCHO!

4

I enjoy kink,,,especially when limits are tossed to the wind,

5

Seems like a lot of people in this story were just seeking acceptance and love from others in their world. It's a pity they placed themselves in harm's way for those feelings. A sad story, for sure.

7

Thank you for putting this out there. I've been warning people about Dylan for over a decade, long before he started wracking up a body count.

9

I mean the ball injections definitely killed him, but are they any more dangerous than anything else we take for recreational purposes? Like, most of us drink alcohol. Every boob job has some risk, etc

If is more dangerous than Kendall's lip kits fine ban the practice, otherwise, dude just got unlucky in the presence of sometime who probably only kinda cared about him.

11

Jack/Tank use to go to my gym. I always had to turn away from looking at him because of the indescribable feeling of revulsion. embarrassment and horror (as did other gym patrons). His scrotum was so swollen from injections that he waddled through the gym bow legged. To make matters worse, he walked slowly and uncomfortably in a wrestling singlet. It wasn't sexy, it wasn't "hot", and whomever brainwashed him into thinking it was should be in locked up in jail...

12

3 you need to chill, lady. This was not a healthy BDSM relationship, this was ABUSE start to finish. There's nothing good coming out of this, except that maybe people will see Dylan for what he is.

An abusive sack of shit, masquerading as a Master.

8 Shut the fuck up, you piece of garbage. Take your transphobic bullshit, roll it up into a tight ball and shove it up your ass. Then do the same with your head.

16

You know, if this were a story about a straight woman's body dysmorphia, we'd all be tut-tutting and blaming the media, society, etc. But because this is happening in the gay community, we are to withhold judgement.

Huh? This is highly fucked up, and not just from the body modification standpoint. From a libertarian perspective, people can and should do what they want to do, but that does not behoove everyone else to pretend it isn't highly fucked up - because it is.

17

@16 People can and should get to do what they want. Then again, should mentally ill people be allowed to indulge in their illness when it's detrimental to their health or life?

Should an anorexic be left to starve their self to death without medical intervention? They have a right to stave to death if they want, right.

18

Good god almighty, what a bizarre and sad story. That Dylan dude sounds like a total sleazebag. I know there are healthy ways to engage in fetish and kink as I'm sure most do, but i would hazard that all those mentioned in this story have a cluster B personality disorder (Dylan's probably got a couple of em).

20

This whole demagogue/demigod worship thing has got.to.stop.

Condolences all around, and i hope that manipulative sociopathic-sounding fuckwit gets his juridical comeuppance.

21

@13 it surely sounds dangerous, but is it, you know, actually? I mean, it turns out that being a crack baby doesn't amount to a long term risk. A lot of things that seem common sense end up not being true.

@16 A large portion of Nth wave feminism relies on the idea that women are weak and feeble and must be protected even from themselves and views men as empowered individuals who are allowed to suffer the consequences of their actions; this is just one expression of it. I think your sense is correct (just look at any article about the women who've suffered after injecting silicon in their buttocks)

22

Excellent article. Thank you, TS, for writing an article not completely biased towards Dylan's POV like other articles have. One point of note: despite them appearing on the International Puppyplay website, Dylan and his boyfriends aren't in a puppy/Owner relationship. Dylan has said repeatedly that he uses pup as a "nicer" term for slave. This was a Master/slave relationship.

23

First off, bigger boobs, bigger balls, there's really no difference. Plastic surgery is readily available for women to use silicone to increase their body parts, and it's just an industry that has made it much more acceptable for women, than for men. This is a societal issue, and that's not gong to be solved anytime soon. However, the surgery that Tank had was indeed performed illegally, as there are is no where that currently offers this procedure under guidance of medical professionals.

The person who performed those injections is responsible for Tank's death, and whether it was Dylan or "someone in Sacramento" - that person has no idea what they're doing, and has just caused someone's death. The fact that Dylan is withholding that information means that he values a person who has just killed one of his partners over the person performing unlicensed surgeries.

Tank probably died relatively soon after another round of injections (within a week or so). and so the person performing the surgery caused his ultimate death...and so it is indeed shocking that there is no criminal investigation going on right now.

Dylan also allegedly had an ex in SF, who's also dead. So, that makes 4 deaths, not 3, in Dylan's small circle. Has anyone researched that? I'm curious to know if there is more, and chances are...probably.

25

@24 I am serious. Think of it like tattoos - People sometimes have adverse reactions to tattoos.

Is the problem putting ink underneath your skin? Or is it poorly trained tattoo artists who don't maintain sanitary conditions? Seems like one would really want to understand the difference if I wanted to get more tattoos in the future (or enlarge a body part to hilarious proportions). I personally see tattoos as totally safe as long as "standard" precautions were observed. If it turns out well performed ball (or butt or lip) injections are as safe as tattoos, by all means, put the globetrotters to shame with your nuts.

26

Jesus.

Anybody recommend domestic abuse resources that are attuned to master/slave kink relationships? If I were asking myself whether to call a hotline, I know I wouldn't call one that would be obviously disgusted with my whole kink self, and be unable to distinguish any D/s from abuse.

@25 would you agree that if you inject silicone into a vein that's highly dangerous? Okay, can you evaluate whether some guy knows how to miss veins 99% or 99.9% or...

27

Can I just put this out there again for everyone's consideration of what they actually desire.

And that's pretty much how Peter's ended up, and pretty much how every silicone guy's cock ends up, because it doesn't distribute evenly and it creates this weird thing where the shaft begins to creep up and swallow over the head. And he got it over his balls as well, and it felt like someone had surgically implanted a cantaloupe into his balls. There was no elasticity or anything, it was just this big solid cold mass in his sack.

28

@25 I wouldn't agree. We inject shit into our veins all the time. It could be harmless or dangerous just like the other stuff we put into our bodies. Millions of people are doing this, most of them without negative effect. Plastic surgery - which includes simple silicon injections - is a legitimate and respected medical specialty. Get out of here with this "it's obviously dangerous duh" routine, only idiots think like that. Surely there's literature and study on this, right?

29

@11: Same. Also, I’m amused that Dylan identifies as a “bodybuilder” because he can’t lift for shit.

30

3
and I include you in that group of disturbed people..

go seek some counseling...sounds like you need it.

31

This sounds like a cult, and reading this left me feeling so sad for the vulnerable people who were pulled into it.

32

Apparently Dylan will be confronted by Jack's mother on an Australian news segment:
https://www.facebook.com/TheProjectTV/videos/1970668436336370/

33

‘However, Tank's desire to perpetually serve Master Dylan, and to alter his body to his master's whims, could plausibly have been what caused his death.’
I’m sorry but this is a huge (and nasty) leap in logic. There doesn’t always have to be someone to ‘blame’.

34

33, Dylan does a love bomb / abuse cycle on his slaves that makes an SVU episode seem tame. He has slave contracts where if they "get out of line" like heaven forbid hang out with a friend not named Dylan he threatens them with lawsuits. Then when they crawl back he tells em "more silicone or the street" and force feeds em steroids. Get over yourself. Dylan Hafertepen has a body count.

35

@25 A 'well-performed' silicone injection is not safe. If the body doesn't encapsulate it fully, it will cause tissue necrosis. Also, even if it is encapsulated fully, it will still very likely end up entering the blood and causing an embolism later. Capillaries eventually grow through the collagen around the silicone, and since capillaries are more permeable while they are growing (fully formed blood vessels are only permeable to water soluble molecules) the silicone can enter. It could take a few years or it could take decades, but actually, it's almost an inevitability. And unlike an embolism caused by a blood clot, chances of survival are basically nil.

The scrotal silicone enlargement community thrives on the myth that the only embolism risk is from a vein being nicked during the injection. They will happily admit that it is a 'risky procedure', but are in complete denial about the ongoing risk of liquid silicone remaining in the body. They think if they get through the injection procedure without trouble, they're fine. This allows them to delude themselves into thinking it's okay if they use an 'experienced practitioner', and decide that it's worth the risk.

If they knew there was an ongoing risk even if they never got another injection in their life, I suspect the silicone scrotal enlargement community would be much, much smaller.

36

The pressures these men feel to look like “superheroes” are just as much a product of a disturbed view of acceptable bodies as the pressures put on women are. That gay men especially are subject to issues of body shaming and extreme modifications isn’t new, there have studies and reports on this for decades. Body modification for women has historically been done to please the male gaze, so has historically been seen as a positive outcome. The modifications done in this article are also for a male gaze, but one that hasn’t been accepted in society for very long.
Insisting that any relationship issues you have are the result of an unsatisfactory body is a way to externalize those issues. The same shit happens in the incel world.
I doubt there is any way to convince people that their bodies are ok as they are.

37

Here's video of Jack's mother confronting Dylan

38

I used to run into this clique on the light rail. Freakishly large scrotums, bad body odor (considered manly, no doubt), overdeveloped muscle in a tank top. I always thought it was kind of weird and unsexy and wondered why anyone would go to that extreme. Now I know.

39

Maybe some people need new hobbies.

40

Sort of reminds me of the destructive relationship trump supporters have with their master.

41

I forgot to add that this was a well written piece - which is part of why I read The Stranger, though I live 3,000 or so miles from Seattle.

42

INJECTING SILICONE INTO YOUR BODY IS INSANELY DANGEROUS. FULL STOP.

Having breast implants is very different, since they are not DIRECTLY INJECTING SILICONE INTO YOUR BODY WHICH IS INSANELY DANGEROUS. Most breast implants now are filled with saline. If they break, your body simply absorbs the saline. Or they are "gummy" implants which aren't liquid.

Even if you don't die of silicone poisoning at first, you can die years later because it's impossible to remove it from your body.

43

God what a well-written piece! Full points for this article, this is the kind of writing I'd read a New Yorker for. Damn!

Dylan Hafertepen, from one gay dominant master/owner to another, all this shit you pulled was emotional abuse, plain and simple, and no number of contracts will make that okay if this report is even remotely accurate. Being a master is not a blank check to be an abuser outside the bedroom, no matter how much you may have engaged in the fantasy.

For the record, if you are indeed that paranoid and insecure that you must force control over the lives of the people closest to you without boundaries of your own it was for sure a total fantasy that you were in a position to tell anyone what to do at all. I wash my hands of any association with your kind of master/owner. Boo.

44

Dylan Hafertapen got his lover Jack Chapman to write a will leaving Dylan his entire $200,000 family inheritance. Two weeks later, someone -- whom Dylan refuses to identify -- injected Jack with silicone, which Dylan knew to be a life-threatening procedure, to please Dylan. One week later Jack died.

I goddamn hope the police investigate this as a suspected homicide. Where's the GoFundMe for Jack's mom to hire a lawyer to fight that will and a private investigator to find the likely proof that Dylan himself injected the silicone?

45

It would be well worth the time of anyone who's interested enough to read this to watch the video that @37 posted. When the mother of the man whose death he is responsible for tells Dylan how much money he stands to inherit from it, he giggles in joy. When pressed on whether he'll put his throw away commitment to give the money to Jack's disabled brother into writing, Dylan predictably refuses to do so.

This piece of human trash works for Indeed right here in Seattle. They apparently have no problem employing conmen.

46

PoodlesAndQueef has a court hearing coming up because they called the cops on a reporter who was trying to report a story. It would be a shame if a bunch of people showed up Monday the 19th at the King County Courthouse, 1:30 pm, room E-312.

47

@46 Could you provide some context for this, please? I'm trying to get local television interested in this case. Light needs to shine on Dylan while the rock he lives under is temporarily lifted.

48

Dear Tank:

I'm sorry I never met you. You sound like you were a nice person who wanted to belong to a loving, caring family. Very normal. If you felt pressured to be one way or another, to modify your body beyond its limits, to shun people who cared about you, I'm sorry that happened. I'm sorry there was no safe and legal way for you to get what you wanted. And I'm sorry you felt you had to have it in order to feel loved. Rest in Peace, Jack.

49

Cultic abuse. No different than religious ones or political ones or business ones. Guidance and deference get morphed corruptly and toxically into abusive control and unhealthfully, deludedly self-abusive uber-masochism (I'm not talking about healthy masochism that can be found in kink). Tragic.

50

@Indeed employs abusers He no longer works at Indeed. He was fired over a year and a half ago. I believe he works at Facebook now.

51

Dumb Question Here: After you fill your ballsack and penis shaft with liquid silicone is it still possible to have sexual intercourse?

53

That contract sounds way worse than the freaky Mars Hill Church contracts I used to hear about.

Really top notch journalism. Fantastic trip reporting.

@37, that's one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever seen. I honestly can't believe how composed the mother is throughout. Your heart has to go out for her.

57

I don't know why the word "trip" is in my last report. I'll blame stupid auto correct

58

Dahmer had an ideal man in mind. This guy may play a role of consent but he is much more sadistic in action and methodology.

59

Also, this is the best piece published by The Stranger since Brendan Kiley left.

60

the Repiglicans are already using this story for their own purposes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWiXAE20NHk&t=32s

61

I gotta admit, this is the story that broke me. As a cisgendered outsider to this world, I've tried to read The Stranger as acceptingly as possible, to learn about those who are differernt. This story, this "world of pups" has pushed me over the edge. I don't get it. I don't understand how anyone on either end of the spectrum can delude themselves into thinking this was okay. That these relationship were just healthy "kinks". And shame on The Stranger for knowing it was going on and turning a blind eye until it was too late.

62

61 - as a cis gay man who's been to his share of circuit parties and not unfamiliar with the kink scene I feel equally broken and disturbed by this story. I haven't been following The Stranger stories frequently enough to judge whether or not they have been condoning unhealthy and abusive relationships. That being said I have seen some apologists for "noodles and beef" and find that fact exceptionally disturbing.

I think what disturbs me the most is that I see my friends and even myself caught up in similar (perhaps more mainstream albeit) validation traps and cycles - i.e. obsessing about fitness, muscle tone, being bigger and hotter ect. Not only that but I've also seen many gay men (myself included again) have underlying self-esteem issues that cause them to put their emotional and mental health on the line to gain approval from a single person (or sometimes a group of people) - whether this comes in the form of steroids, or drug use, or offering themselves up in dangerous sexual situations.

This story strike too close to home and is making think deeply about my relationships, and the way I relate my own validation to external factors. To me it's a tragic story and a reminder of the importance for us all to do our self work regarding our insecurities lest we hurt ourselves and others.

63

Many commenters here say they care about the lives of gay men in Seattle. Yet with the same breath, the accuse anyone who suggests that someone who has caused multiple deaths within the gay community of Seattle should not be 'kink shamed'.

Do you think they kink shamed Ted Bundy, too? I mean, just because the guy had a murder fetish, I mean, geez..

Oh, that's different, because the victims were all women and that happened back in the 1970's, before we had a more enlightened view, huh?

Dylan's a serial murderer. And he's gotten away with it. This isn't about kink shaming. It's about murder.

64

@62.Wow, thank you for that. It definitely humanized the stories for me and made me reconsider my opinion/understanding. Good luck in your journey.
