Drivers now routinely zip around pedestrians without slowing down.
Or- in classic passive-aggressive style - drive over the marked crosswalk and then stop, which forces the pedestrian to choose which end of the car to walk around.

2

@1: I routinely see drivers stop for people waiting at a crosswalk.

Walkers, like bikers, like drivers, can all be assholes. They're all people, go figure. "If" the turn signal light for the driver who was turning left was green, which would turn the crossing signal red, then it's the walker's fucking fault for ignoring the do not cross signal. Pedestrians do not automatically have the right of way, particularly at a light. It would be nice if we were all nicer to each other, but in this case, I'm giving the benefit of the doubt to the driver since this writer seems like an entitled, whiny asshole who made a dramatic show of things "Oh, I couldn't possibly be wrong" setting the driver's reaction in motion. Even if it was the driver's fault, the entitled, whiny asshole comment still stands. Can't we all just get along?

Seattle has shitty crosswalk signals. You get maybe 10 seconds from the beginning of a flashing "Don't Walk" to the cross traffic getting the green light. For a city who puts pedestrians on a pedestal (or do they?), their traffic engineering standards are crap.

We (on the East side) even get countdown crosswalk signals

@5: "and the peds will deliberately stroll as slowly as they can"

That's the opiates.

To everybody in these comments dumping on pedestrians: You're punching down. That makes you a defective human being. Die in a (vehicular) fire.

I couldn't be more anti-car, but goddamn if I don't see pedestrians constantly enter the crosswalk when it's blinking red with just a couple seconds left. That means do not start crossing. Then the car waiting to turn doesn't get to because you've used up all the available time with your late crossing. This is clearly what happened here as otherwise the light wouldn't have been red so quickly.
