I spent some time in Montana in the 80s. That ""leave us alone" attitude was well entrenched, for better or for worse.

I didn't realize the people had voted for a constitutional amendment. That speaks volumes. But hang on, I bet that battle isn't over yet.

In red states I can't see any reason why indian tribes (as "soveren nations") can't set up their own free abortion clinics, perhaps partially funded by non-profits. $100 worth of free chips with every abortion, right next to (or even in) the casino. Why not?

I grew up in Montana. The “do whatever the fuck you want, as long as it’s not harming someone else” or “leave me alone” ethos is more commonly and politely expressed there as “live and let live”. I know this is The Stranger and you can’t write an article without at least one “fuck”, but you could be provocative and try. That ethos was pretty well embraced by everyone from liberal to conservative. It is only the relatively recent growth of evangelical Christian groups who want to get their noses up in everybody’s bidness. I hate them fuckers. (proper use of “fuck”).
Also, please “pregnant women“, not “pregnant people“. Can we back off the hyper-wokeness just a tiny, tiny bit?
