So she would recklessly cut budgets without regard for the welfare of people living in Seattle:

"Even though she’s not sure where the City would find money to fund alternatives with current funds, Hudson said she “probably” would have voted with the City Council to reduce the police budget back in 2020."

Oh, and I'm sure she's over that tear gas attack by now. Poor thing.

You always ask the right questions, Hannah, thank you! Sorry to hear about her lack of self-motivated commitment to housing first or to business taxation as a funding source. Hopefully she solidifies her positions before the election.

6

@5: Not sure what your point is, as Seattle's municipal employees live all across the region, not just Seattle.

9

Actually, tear gas is pretty vile. Boo on my third sentence in @3.

13

@4 - Housing first has failed. We have a drug-addiction-fueled homeless crisis. Let's address drug addiction and mental illness first. Drug addicts have been taking advantage of Seattlelites' empathy, generosity and empathy without wanting to change their situation.

It would be nice if we had a single candidate running in D3 whose platform wasn’t centered on ‘I’m Woke’

It’s especially bad when a candidate can’t articulate where they stand on a ballot initiative that’s been out there for nearly a year and we’ll be voting on in just a few weeks. In my mind, that level of indecision (or cowardice) is a disqualifier. I’d almost rather be represented by someone who takes a firm stance I disagree with than someone who doesn’t know where they stand..

‘Hudson said she “probably” would have voted with the City Council to reduce the police budget back in 2020.’

Then her polling numbers would “probably” be swirling down the same toilet bowl as are polling numbers for CMs Herbold and Sawant, which is why each of them has already handed in her notice.

‘However, she added that it was unfortunate that the council had to find an answer to a “bigger conversation” in a pressure cooker.’

That wound was entirely self-inflicted; the Council did not have to address that question at that moment. A better use of their time would have been to investigate why the East Precinct was abandoned, and get commitments for when it would be operational. Voting to cut the police budget at the very time actual human beings were suffering and dying for lack of police response was a foolish and needless self-defeat. At that moment, they did not need a “professional collaborator,” they needed someone to tell them — in very clear terms — about the folly they were committing.

Would you like some powdered sugar with your waffles?

Sheesh, talk about a wishy-washy candidate, although after the divisiveness of Sawant, Hudson may be a well-needed antidote to all that socialist acrimony, although goodness knows Seattle needs someone like Sawant to stir the pot with all these moderate, arm-chair progressives occupying the City Council Suites.

Bolder political stances please.

Hudson should advocate for a progressive business tax to provide housing for the homeless, and address police brutality, which has come back to haunt us with increased violence against people of color, as documented in the Seattle Police Monitor report to the Commissioner.

At lease Hudson is willing to throw her hat in the ring, although a moderate has a snowball’s chance in the notoriously progressive City Council District 3, and the intellectually intense, socially conscientious Sawant, who always follow words with deeds, is a tough act to follow for a latter-day blogger with good intentions.

19

@18: “…Sawant, who always talks big and delivers little…”

Fixed that for you. You’re welcome.

District 3 will get a new CM because the old one is quitting the job before her neighbors can replace her. Anyone who wants to do a good job as District 3’s CM should do pretty much the opposite of what CM Sawant has done.

1 So you are admitting that you are right wing and a racist.

13 Housing First has barely been tried.

People need housing and social services and treatment to get clean. Its impossible to get clean on the streets in the cold and damp and the hard life. Try it yourself if you dare.

We do not need a police state in this city we need to get rid of the hostile architecture and treat people like human beings for starters. THIS IS NOT NAZI GERMANY.

A large percent of the homeless are people of color and all of them are poor. Many of them have jobs. This looks like race and class war and to continue to attack them could end badly for the privileged in this city.

19 Its clear that you are against human rights and labor rights and speak for the corporate wealthy. There are more of us.

22

The downward slide of late stage capitalism is continues. So more and more police is not going to help. The more you oppress people the more they are likely to strike back.

History.

23

No is needed as in is continues. Thank you.

11 Not so dead as you may like to think.
