lol it was pretty amusing seeing a pack the chamber event and Sawant is the only way sitting there. Strauss, Lewis, Pedeson said nothing until it was time to vote and then just said no.
Only fitting that this should happen right as APEC negotiations begin behind closed doors in our city. With those negotiations come lost jobs in the PNW, more people will be pushed into desperation and out of living wages, exploitation will reign supreme over seas, and the wealthy will continue to engorge themselves on the fruits of our supposedly humanist, progressive society.
@6 you can only fail if you first try to do something. She never tried to work with her colleagues. She harassed and bullied them and when that fear finally wore off, the would be emperess had no clothes.
@7: And when she had influence, she squandered it on bills which were bad ideas, flatly illegal, despised by the voters, or some combination of those three: head tax, Showbox, defund. Her egregious malfeasances alienated āherā constituency to the point they almost revoked the powers they had granted her ā and their attempt itself effectively ended her ability to make any more threats. Itās really hard to find anyone who failed harder in the legislative role.
perhaps not ironically tenured renters in seattle are now far more likley to get an inflation-only rent increase this cycle instead of an all-the-way-to-market-rate increase.
Sawant's time on the council ends pretty much in the same way that her entire tenure on the council was spent: lots of bluster and lots of broken promises.
@11: And sheās using the term āleechesā not to describe Greystar, or other huge corporations who view Seattleās renters merely as a source of money to be exploited to the fullest, but to actual human beings who reside in Seattle, and who are most likely to provide affordable housing:
ā āmom and popā landlords, a term of endearment that council members use instead of leeches.ā
The Stranger has gone full into the death spiral of failed extremism begetting ever more extremist extremism, in the certain belief the only thing which could ever possibly be wrong with extremism is that it just didnāt go extreme enough. Dehumanizing rhetoric blasting against anyone deemed an enemy will continue until the extremists either get exhausted and quit, or turn their endless hateful rage upon each other.
Last year, I personally constructed a retaining wall and fence, treated the roof with elastomer, did a huge drywall repair job after a plumbing problem (that I also paid to repair) at my rental property. My tenants are paying about 15% below market on average because I don't raise the rent very often. One of my tenants stopped paying rent and I agreed to forgive more than $15,000 in unpaid rent to allow him to have a fresh start with credit intact. I'm going to lose money this year because of that. Honestly Hannah, you just sound stupid calling me a "leech" because we both know that you have no idea what you are talking about. This is not journalism.

Shorter headline post: Today, CM Sawantās ten years of abject failure at building coalitions doomed her signature bill. We blame the leeches.

Leeches? This article written by a juvenile?

This was nothing more than political theatre.
The same can be said for most of the stunts she pulled while in office.
Glad I reelected Dan Strauss.

@18. I'm surprised she didn't pound her shoe on her desk.
