Officer Burton Hill, caught on audio hurling racist and sexist slurs at his elderly Chinese-American neighbor.

Why is The Stranger against Racist Sexist Cops killing our BIPOC neighbors when our Mayor is totally behind the out of control cops using us as training dummies?
Having had a nightmare neighbor that also tried to kill my dog, I certainly won't pass judgement here, but I'm curious about this audio recording. Assuming he was not on duty, isn't a secret audio recording illegal as we are in a 2-party consent state? Seems like the neighbor and by association, this site, are opening themselves up to serious legal ramifications here.
Hey look everyone, here's the one asshole who got into a fight with his neighbor and said some really shitty things. I guess this is all the evidence I need to completely defund the police. Looking forward to the follow up articles on teachers, doctors or any other profession that involves humans (hint: they all have assholes. It doesn't mean the entire profession is full of them).
People can live together without speaking much of the same language. I once had a conversation with a Chinese guy on a train, about what his mother did for a living. He did some gloriously graphic mimes for me, enabling me to guess that his mom was an OB/GYN.
@9 Nowhere in the post do we describe the recording as "secret." In the full audio, Miggins loudly acknowledges that Jin is recording. Moreover, part of the audio we shared was played in open court.
@10 - The defund the police movement definitely shouldn't have based their entire argument on this one racist cop harassing his neighbor. Whew, thanks for catching that!
@12 Thanks, I have not heard the full recording. I did notice the recording shared here is heavily edited, presumably to make the officer look as damned as possible. Anyone that lived through a nightmare neighbor understands this was likely someone goading them into saying something that they could then run off and ruin lives with. To cast judgement on someone that risks his life to protect our city for many years, over unwise words yelled out of uniform, in the heat of an argument, says more about what our city finds important than anything else. Hopefully our fair city will find the perfect cops we want before it completely burns to the ground.
The use in of an ethnic slur seems less important than the threatening and harassing behaviors, which are illegal. Is it too much to ask if SPD officers that they not engage in illegal behaviors?
@15, and who among us doesn’t respond to a certain amount of goading and provocation by resorting to ethnic slurs, amirite? There but for the grace of God…
@15 is a good example of why the policing conversation is so ridiculous. This cop is obviously a POS yet you decide to defend him - protecting cops regardless of behavior is no better than deriding all cops for the actions of a few.
@15 "someone that risks his life to protect our city for many years"
Being a cop isn't even a top-10 most dangerous job. (https://www.forbes.com/advisor/legal/workers-comp/most-dangerous-jobs-america/) If cops are allowed to harass and spout racial slurs at their neighbors from time to time by virtue of "risking their lives" what do garbage men--#7--get to do, burn crosses on their Black neighbors' lawn?
"exusations?" The cop's wife is not only a POS but she's borderline illiterate. And maybe the Realtors ought to think about whether they want to be associated with this tool.
Crazy. It’s almost like there’s some weird trait of the professional culture of policing that attracts and coddles abusers and assholes.
Bad guy! Out he goes.
Agnes Miggins can't spell.

Let’s not jump to any conclusions without more evidence that I will ignore if it contradicts the narrative in my head.

Wup, meant that comment for @8

@15: the man has had six investigations against him since 2016 many involving racial bias. But sure.

Agnes Miggins Instagram is not private if you wanna see what these racist POS look like.

Good riddance to obvious trash.

@27 I think you know why. TS is pretty much anti cop porn for the progressives in the city. No need to even ask for context because ACAB.

"Neither Hill nor Miggins returned our calls for comment."
We gave them both more than a day to respond.
