Nothing, or Nothing Good, Experts Say

A wealthy hedge fund manager in Washington funded a ballot measure that could harm LGBTQ kids and clog public schools with paperwork, all in concert with the national conservative movement to remove evidence-based sexual education and actual American history from schools. Chip Somodevilla / GETTY

Parents rights laws would force kids to use kitty litter bathrooms and skip lunches they really need to pray for White Jesus and his only son Hitler.

2

It’s virtual signaling for conservatives.

Travesty.

Very
Well done

They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself.

Who do these people think they are?
Why would anyone think a parent should make decisions about their children.
We really need to just trust the government. They only want what is best.
What a brave new world we live in.

@6 clearly you know nothing about the public school system (based on your fear mongering).

As someone who both attended public school in this state and has a child in public schools today, I’m amazed at how uninformed right wingers tend to be.

Example, if there was ever a topic that could be potentially sensitive (be it health, sex education, certain historical topics, etc.), my child’s teachers would reach out, mention the topics during curriculum night, sometimes require us to sign an acknowledgment - the only way anything would have come as a surprise is if I was just totally checked out as a parent.

I also have access to a web portal which shows me attendance, grades, classroom curriculum, etc. - I don’t need this shitty initiative to provide what’s already available.

And lastly, as a parent I’ve taken the opportunity to point out to my child when topics conflict with our family beliefs, values, etc.; however, as this is America, we don’t make a big deal of it (no letter to the principal, media, etc.) - it’s important to understand there are a myriad of beliefs in a diverse community (that’s a feature).

I look forward to voting no.

@8 like @6 you clearly have no idea what rights parents already possess without this garbage, virtue signaling initiative (try harder)

11

@9 and so it reaffirms existing parents rights. Sounds like you should vote yes.

I know I will.

ASaxman5537 dear, I'd trust the government over a whole lot of the parents out there.

All those homeless? The ones the conservatives fixate on their poop and needles? They all had parents, and look at them.

13

Parents who know what's best for their kids have at least some idea of what they don't know, and thus recognize the need for trained professionals' expertise. They're not the ones who will be empowered by this initiative to badger, bully and harass said professionals out of the education field -- which is clearly what it's intended to do.

14

Like all such bills from the Fascist right, it is designed to give conservative parents more control at the expense of their children's rights. Yes, the right of a student to hide their sexuality and gender identity from their parents ALWAYS trumps any rights the parents think they should have.

Another name for "State Sanctioned Child Abuse".

I'm a proudly gay old fucker that's been around long enough to smell the exact type of diseased, plague-ridden bovine anus this type of "protect our children" bullshit farce spews from. It's not a question of whether or not this "could be" aimed at the LGBTQIA+ community, it most definitely is written exactly for that purpose and the language hasn't changed much.

The only difference now being that our most precious commodity, educators, are the target of this sinister campaign because it's easier to force them into a position of compliance through fear of false accusation. It's the most vile, manipulative bullshit I've seen in years and everyone that truly believes in a just and equitable society should be fucking pissed!

I'm starting to see this kind of "let's create a more family-friendly neighborhood" coded bigotry creep its way into neighborhood forums around the Seattle area and it should alarm the fuck out of you if you're openly queer. Get ready to curb stomp this shit into oblivion, get angry, and fight it with everything you have.

@19 thank for fully and completely letting mask slip. You do not believe teenagers have any right to privacy at all. No doctor-patient confidentially whatsoever. Kids are property until they turn 18.
Well sorry, HIPPA starts at 13 here, and the same should be true in schools. You’ve made it very obvious why.
