I spoke with the private security guy - Steven from Security Services Northwest. There is also a woman in a burgundy sedan who tags in.
To hear Officer Brooks say "nudity is illegal in Seattle" just DAYS after Mayor Bruce Harrell says it's not.... SPD, how was this not a talking point at shift briefs? #fail
Also - Colleen, the volunteer lead with Friends of Denny Blaine did not tell or instruct anyone to cover up. Colleen relayed the information they had been given by SPD. Colleen listed the outcomes SPD had provided them: cover up or face consequences, the choice is yours.
@1: Yes, it is a separate issue but it only takes a few jacks to ruin things for everyone to make it the main issue. Unforced errors again - such is the human condition.
Couldn't get the law to bend for them so they're trying to cut the middle man and have the cops just enforce their will directly. Thoroughly sore losers.
Our prudish mishmash of laws regarding nudity is very confusing.
We can be naked in public, but we can't be sexual.
We can have strippers, but there can't be any booze present, and no lap dances.
We can have adult theatres, but no one is supposed to have sex in them (although people do).
We can have adult bookstores with "arcades" for viewing of pornography and presumably masturbation, but they have to be single-occupancy. They can, however, apparently have glory holes.
Portland, and Oregon in general, seems much more rational and adult in dealing with these issues. Why can't we just do what Oregon does?

What does “trespass” mean in the title? I always thought it meant illegally entering private property but a quick Internet search shows it can also be intrusion on someone else’s privacy. Is the author saying that the nude park goer had a right to privacy in a public park? I’ve noticed more use of this term in relation to policing and want to understand it better.
@11: "Non-violent calls for service at City parks" was #6 on the list of 28 call types that the LAPD Police Officers' Union demanded be taken off their plates so officers could concentrate on police work.
That's their equivalent of SPOG, except unlike SPOG they apparently have more than 0 professional integrity and some fire in the belly about actually spending their shifts preventing and solving serious crime as opposed to doing the work of civilian Park Rangers,
Hey The Stranger, this is a poorly written and confusing article. In particular, the article title is problematic, and the use of the term “trespass” as it applies to a person in this context is unnecessarily confusing and misleading (to everyone who didn’t spend 15 minutes tracking it down, it’s essentially a formal written notice prohibiting a person from entering or remaining on certain property, or more commonly known as a “no trespass” notice).
From the article headline, it’s inferred that a written notice was issued to the trans woman for being “trans”. However, I don’t see that indicated in the article text. A verbal warning not to come back for a week has no legal standing, and that it was directed at her appears to have nothing to do with her being trans, but rather that she shouted out to others not to comply with LEO directions, as described in the article. So why single out this woman as “trans” in the article title? What does it have to do with what took place at the park that day?
The Stranger has written some quality articles on issues relating to trans people, and more media attention needs to be focused on the onslaught of bigotry toward trans people. But maybe it's not in the best interest of trans people for The Stranger to treat anything remotely involving a trans person as click-bait. That’s what Fox News does, and too much of media at large.
I'm so confused.
If public nudity is illegal, what the fook are the naked bike riders at the Solstice Parade about? THOUSANDS of naked body parts, with cops all around not arresting anyone.
I guess I need to get my pasty old body over to Denny Blaine so I can ask the cops how many are gonna be at the Solstice parade this year, ready to harass participants.
It's Saturday June 21st this year.
Whenever i call the police because someone is smoking meth or passed out and seemingly dead on the porch of our office they always say they're too understaffed to come... thank god they have time to go to a well known nude beach and police the nudity. A real public service.
Phoebe dear, you don't get out much, do you? It may not be like First Avenue in the 70's, but there's still plenty of "dirty bookstores". Seattle still has two bathhouses, and certain parks are notorious for sexy fun times.
The City, to defend the suit, must show good faith efforts to end the nuisance.
Nothing would serve the City better than for someone being arrested for being trespassed, and not leaving, for being naked, or better yet, multiole people, and the City losing each and every case.
If the City can't legally stop nakedness in the park through criminal prosecution, as demonstrated by losses in court when they do so, they can't lose a nuisance lawsuit for failing to stop nakedness.
That reduces the subject of the Nuisance Lawsuit to cases of mastrubation, sex, park users blocking driveways, leaving trash, and other unlawful activities.
@7: I went to a strip club in Portland some years ago. Sat down and when a dancer approached, I asked for a lap dance. "What?! You don't want a drink? What about a lady's drink for me?" Nope. I don't drink, but I do like my lap dances, for which I'll pay. But the Portland area strippers appear to have become scantily clad cocktail waitresses. And I'm some sort of pervert for preferring the scantily clad part over the cocktails.
I had an acquaintance who had moved up here (to the old Ricks) from Portland clubs. Down there, the plan was to get the customers boozed up, so they wouldn't really be good for anything but more drinking. But she actually liked the dancing part.
If the notoriously-understaffed SPD (@9, @13, @19) have quality time to spend as Park Rangers, and (as we already know) the rich neighbor who started all of this has the ear of Mayor Harrell, then we can safely speculate Hizzoner leaned on the cops to "clean up" Denny Blaine Park. Hence the cops' apparent harassment of park-goers. Perhaps contacting the City Council would be in order?
@7: Some rationality here would be very welcome, yes, especially as it would involve merely following Seattle's existing laws. No leaving bodily fluids at the park*, but simple public nudity there is already legal, and should not be subject to police action. But when it comes to sex and drugs, Americans have always behaved in deeply irrational ways, and supposedly-liberal Seattle has never proved the exception, now has it?
*Anyone skilled enough to have sex in a public park, whether solo or partnered, whilst creating no public disturbance nor leaving a mess thereafter, has my begrudging admiration -- and can carry on as they like, without any complaint from me.
I was diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer in 2018 which has already spread to the lymph node with an elevated PSA but was able to beat it with natural herbal medicine with the help of Doctor Nelson a herbal specialist whose testimonials were all over this platform of him curing different diseases with herbal medicine by his previous patients. I reached out and purchase his products for Prostate cancer which was delivered through dhl service and with his instructions I started treatments. First week the symptoms which includes blood in urine and difficulties urinating stopped. After treatment for 2 months all symptoms stopped completely I did another biopsy and MRI scan which confirmed there were no cancer cells on my system and my elevated PSA completely dropped, till date there has been no reoccurrence of the cancer. Oh Brother. Yes, no one should be jacking it in public. That's a separate issue from the nudity.
You're 81 and rich AF. You could live anywhere, but you chose to move in next to a well-known, decades-established gay beach.
GO ELSEWHERE. Hunts Point. Broadmoor. The Highlands. Laurelhurst. They're all calling.

The fact that the court case that challenged nudity being illegal was called "Seattle v. Johnson" is just too perfect.
I have nothing against public nudity, but why oh why is it always fat ugly people? Is it OK if I stop by for a laugh?

@7: "We can be naked in public, but we can't be sexual."
Most folks okay with that.
Adult bookstores and arcades? They're scarce relics of the last century.
@9: Conversely, you'd complain if they didn't take the time as being aloof.

Was this guy upset about the cops taking his business? Hard to compete with SPD in the private security for rich people game.

@8 But you're still giving Trump rusty trombones. Good thing he hasn't yet placed a tariff on tranny porn, or else what would you jack off to?

Sounds like a bunch of buck naked people need to protest in front of this rich pricks house until he begs them to go back to the beach.
@24: "Anyone skilled enough to have sex in a public park, whether solo or partnered, whilst creating no public disturbance"
Two person collapsible tent.
"Nothing going on here, officer. Just don't want to get sunburned."
