People in Germany must now be cringing about what has been long considered unthinkable in the United States is happening here in the Deeply Divided States, a once great nation and superpower held captive by ~ 75 million neofascist idiots, heartless criminals, and their enablers.
I have a friend and former neighbor who I have known since my childhood, who migrated with her husband to the U.S. from cold war era Germany in the 1950s, when they were a young newlywed couple. We met on a bus eight and a half years ago to Olympia protesting climate change. A widow in her 80s, she told me she felt sick about the direction the U.S. was taking--THEN, in 2015--with overuse of industrialism and fossil fuels. It reminded her chillingly of the same dystopian climate of her native country during the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich. She and her spouse had no choice but to leave, seeking asylum in this once wonderful, thriving democracy where they had and raised their children and grandchildren here. My heart goes out to them for what they went through nearly seven decades ago. What uncertainties they faced, and the sadness of possibly never returning to see family and friends in their native country again.
I miss what was truly good otherwise about the 20th Century--what we HAD, and blew away. It breaks my heart that future generations--if there ARE any---will never have what I grew up with, lived, and experienced.
My reproductive years are thankfully well behind me. I never had children and never felt sufficient reason to have children of my own, but I wear a Planned Parenthood pin and support body autonomy.
Everyone please excuse me while I go outside for some fresh air, watch the sunset on the water, sit and meditate in my beloved VW, prepare and try to eat some dinner, play some music, and watch a movie. I'm really feeling overwhelmed.

Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity as goals have been destroyed.
No shoring up of voting rights has happened (especially the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, sitting in a garbage can somewhere).
Teaching the actual history of the United States, especially enslavement and then the Civil Rights movement is being outlawed in this country, state by state.
More people than ever are incarcerated (incarcerated people can't vote and in most states formerly incarcerated people can't vote).

Oh and
Roe v. Wade has been overturned
The USPS is being destroyed to ensure vote by mail is destroyed.
Books have been banned at an astronomical rate
Child labor is back in vogue (children can't vote).

All of this and more has happened while Biden has been president. Why the fuck does anyone believe anything will change? And, I will say this AGAIN, Trump is not some sort of cyborg who will live forever. He's totally demented and deteriorating so quickly even his own MAGAts are walking out of his incomprehensible rallies where he spews unintelligible garbage.

The Democrats demand to put up an 80 year old for president and everyone who has supported Democrats is expected to step in line and vote for Biden or else.
