Wait. The kid was crossing at a marked crosswalk with warning lights flashing, a car was stopped ahead of the driver to let them cross, and they proceeded to swerve around that car and into the intersection? How the FUCK is that NOT "reckless driving"???
and me wanna go home
came here to say what @3 did. what the actual fuck.
Here's a functional link to the TNT story: https://www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/article263644208.html
"Witnesses reported that the crosswalk signals were activated. It has signals on both sides of the road and at a center island. When collision investigators inspected the scene, the center signal was not working. Reyer said it was unclear whether it worked when the crash occurred."
"A car ahead of the Jeep had stopped at the crosswalk before the collision, according to troopers, and witnesses reported that other northbound and southbound traffic had stopped. A trooper who was on the scene told Reyer that it was very likely the driver did not see the bicyclist enter the crosswalk because of the car stopped in front of her."
Best way to kill someone in this country is with a car. The consequences are usually pretty laughable.
It amazes me the Log Cabiners still cling to the GOP. They want you disenfranchised and dead you dolts. Ye gods it ruly is a cult.
Sadly not even the worst thing US business interests have done in South/Central America over bananas. Not worth it if you ask me, bananas are just okay.
The quotes from Robert Reyer, the Parkland cop, are fucking ridiculous:
“He all of the sudden appeared in front of her car, and she was unable to stop.”
"Charges would only be forwarded if there was a criminal offense, such as being impaired and killing somebody, or driving in a manner that is, basically, reckless. We could completely exclude both. There was no impairment, and there was no reckless driving.”
“[Cyclists] are rather difficult to see because they are not as big as a car and they are a lot more vulnerable because they don’t have that metal cage around them that protects them a little bit better.”
FUCK. THIS. COP.

Tonight’s Select Committee hearing is NOT the finale! They’ve already announced they’re starting a second series in August because so many people have come forward with additional information as a result of the current series of hearings. So, stay tuned, because their investigation is far from over. Personally, I’m grateful they’ll keep going. There’s been a noticeable shift already in how the Republican Party views Dump, 60% of Americans now want him prosecuted, and the next round of hearings will keep his crimes on the publics mind. People also need to understand our democracy is still in peril, and will be for years to come. Yes, our politicians need to get a lot more serious about protecting it, but ultimately the power to hold America steady falls on we the people. So, vote!!
@10- yet another reason tailgaters should be summarily executed. They’re the most dangerous thing on the road by far.
@11 I think it's a mistake to assume any of this will affect Trump's appeal. Trump supporters will never, ever change their minds about anything, ever, for any reason. In their minds, this is just another hoax, with pedophile Dems and RINOS joining forces to bring Trump down. Also, they all believe that 1/6 was either a false flag led by Antifa, or some weird conspiracy centered on Ray Epps.
Plus, they all believe the witnesses are liars, due primarily to the fact some portions of Cassidy Hutchinson's testimony were "discredited" by far-right weirdos like Jack Posobeic. The fact that Trump's own hand-picked Attorney General and White House Counsel testified under oath that all the half-baked stolen election conspiracies were investigated and found baseless does not change a thing for Trump supporters: anyone who disagrees with the narrative is a Deep State never-Trumper.
The 1/6 committee could present live sworn testimony from Trump himself claiming Joe Biden was legitimately elected and the stolen election nonsense was all lies, and Trump supporters would continue to believe Biden only won because a server in Germany switched votes / "mules" stuffed ballot boxes / Dominion machines switched votes / North Korea landed a boat full of ballots in Maine, and so on. Reality doesn't matter anymore.
@7: Well, just because a deranged populist hijacks a political party and turns it into a cult doesn't mean the original principles of the party won't reemerge in the future.
“…and there was no reckless driving."
You don’t ’go around’ a car stopped at a marked crosswalk! And someone 27 certainly knows that.
If this is the caliber of ‘intelligence’ at WSP, we are in serious trouble.
Maybe I should be glad that the SPD refused to come to the scene of the drunk driver who tore out 3/4 tendons in my shoulder?
@14 it seems like, based on the words and actions of a significant portion of the party, the deranged populist was not a fluke, he was just a vehicle to allow all the others to openly be who they truly are. guess we'll find out when he dies. at least we can both agree that will be a good day
@7, 17, further validation of those claims:
Sheesh, the cop even admitted that the driver failed to yield which is ... ILLEGAL.
@21: No, just go back to 2012 - A Romney election could have prevented the rise of Trump and the terror of Putin.
Feel educated? You're welcome.
@22. Lol, everybody feels educated after you post anything, but not for the reasons you think.
(1) The operator of an approaching vehicle shall stop and remain stopped to allow a pedestrian, bicycle, or personal delivery device to cross the roadway within an unmarked or marked crosswalk when the pedestrian, bicycle, or personal delivery device is upon or within one lane of the half of the roadway upon which the vehicle is traveling or onto which it is turning. For purposes of this section "half of the roadway" means all traffic lanes carrying traffic in one direction of travel, and includes the entire width of a one-way roadway.
(4) Whenever any vehicle is stopped at a marked crosswalk or at any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection to permit a pedestrian, bicycle, or personal delivery device to cross the roadway, the driver of any other vehicle approaching from the rear shall not overtake and pass such stopped vehicle.
Now I believe these are traffic "infractions", not "crimes" so maybe not facing criminal charges could be explained, but it absolutely warranted a ticket.
Also, it would be hard for the driver to pay off the civil judgment if they are in prison, so there is that...
@22: "A Romney election could have prevented... the terror of Putin"? hilarious.
you didn't answer @21's query about "original principles".
@26: An unobtrusive, limited, but efficient government for starters, chew on that and report back.
@18: Oh lookie, Garb found some fringe.
@28. Fringe is what the GOP called the QAnon Trump cult before they went mainstream. Sorry to say that your views are now fringe to the GOP, and identity and party loyalty have you daydreaming a lost cause.
Better yet, reread Eisenhower’s humanity hanging on a cross of iron speech.
This from a general reason why we won WWII. It’s shockingly progressive. (Along with FDR’s four freedoms -ok obviously he was a dem.) But this show how much the U S A has deteriorated in the last few decades.

@30: Are you really happy only having one viable party? I'm not.
@34: I don't need to provide an essay to you as politics are so up in the air right now and I don't know what's going to happen. It's a moving target. There's no right or wrong here. We're perpetual students. Both parties have served this country well for over a hundred years, but true conservatism, as in the works of William F. Buckley Jr, is not anything near what MAGA is doing.
The dems are horrible at messaging and 'Defund the Police' is the epitome of a warped concept of social justice trashing common sense. Dems are always doing that. They also love to tax what is already taxed. Like these additional capital gains proposals.
Republicans will always put the individual over the state, and I prefer that.

@36: For the zillionth time, current GOP are not conservatives. Indeed, there was a time when Baptists were pro-choice. Pro-choice is actually the conservative position. The philosophical principles are not matched by the current politics, and as you admit that's true for Dems.
On the local level, dems are far worse. Democrat DAs are the worst. Putting social justice fantasies over public safety. Republicans would never do that.
I'll get some popcorn ready for your reply, "partisan hack" indeed.
School choice is one. It's a good thing.
