We're finally getting some accountability for Durkan's deleted texts. Lester Black

"The investigation interviewed 97 people, but apparently not any of the justices. That oversight, according to one law professor and former Supreme Court clerk, made it 'hard to take this investigation seriously.'"

Just remember, monetary sanctions against the city take money which would otherwise be spent for other things. It won't come out of Durkin's pocket.

Also, not a good look for the Stranger to link to Elon Musk that links to Rupert Murdoch.

https://www.npr.org/sections/money/2019/02/26/698057356/if-a-wealth-tax-is-such-a-good-idea-why-did-europe-kill-theirs

From the article

“In 1990, twelve countries in Europe had a wealth tax. Today, there are only three: Norway, Spain, and Switzerland. According to reports by the OECD and others, there were some clear themes with the policy: it was expensive to administer, it was hard on people with lots of assets but little cash, it distorted saving and investment decisions, it pushed the rich and their money out of the taxing countries—and, perhaps worst of all, it didn't raise much revenue.“

Also in case anyone really wants to believe this will remain focused on the "rich" there is already a bill in the legislature to lower the threshold for the newly enacted capital gains tax to $15k (from the current $250K) and raise the rate to 8.5% (SB 5335).

"Microsoft Hosted Sting Performance in Davos": Before even getting to the bloodletting (layoffs), that verges on self-parody. It's reminiscent of Al Yankovic's "All about the pentiums" video, which features a bunch of stiff, clean-cut corporate drones in business costumes "rocking out" at COMDEX:

Maybe next time they can get Kanye West!

@7; The brilliant political geniuses at the Stranger (just ask them!) demanded Mayor Durkan’s recall over the violent Capitol Hill “defund” riots. The courts ruled the Mayor of Seattle does not have operational control of the SPD, so the recall was not allowed. Having thus legitimatized use of recall against an elected official, the Stranger was then shocked — shocked, I say! — when the weary citizens of District 3 DARED to use it against CM Sawant. Unable to admit error, the Stranger will never stop chasing shadows in an attempt to “prove” they were somehow someway “right” about Durkan.

Mayor Jenny Durkan will be remembered as a public servant who performed well in extremely difficult circumstances, whereas the Stranger’s darling CM Sawant was such a miserably ineffective and loud-mouthed failure, her own neighbors signed by the thousands for her recall.

@2: Imagine ordering queen-sized Giza cotton bedsheets from the chairmen or the RNC!

They're only $29.99 with your promo code.

18

@17
More like ordering closet queen-sized crazy from virtually everyone in the GOP!
Let the Congressional investigations begin!

Kristo was in a relationship that had a marriage? All while living in your mothers basement? Your mom must be amazing.

I can't get past the WaPo paywall, but the situation is a little more nuanced than "they didn't interview the justices". They didn't make them sign a sworn statement (eg, interview them under oath), but they did interview the justices in a less formal manner. https://ground.news/article/justices-were-interviewed-as-part-of-supreme-court-leak-probe

"KUOW reports that the recent wave of attacks on the power grid just so happen to coincide with FBI warnings about far-right groups promoting the idea of sabotaging the country's electrical infrastructure online."

Much like the Stranger, KUOW is, of course, full of shit: "According to court documents, Greenwood, 32, and Crahan, 40, plotted to knock out power from four substations. While power was out in the first two facilities, the pair broke into a local business to steal from the cash register, Greenwood allegedly told investigators after his arrest."

So now we have the usual ghouls defending the status quo and the failed law enforcement approach to people living in poverty with no safe havens to lay their heads.

The crime wave that the police were able to end recently consisted of shoplifters that were stealing toilet tissue and food. No connection to the economy eh??? Just arrest people and throw them in jail.

Well, everybody on the bottom or near bottom is taxed in some way with little problem so it should not be any issue to tax the super wealthy that are milking us dry now should it? You want to continue special privileges for them? Ever heard of the guillotine? Even heard of pushing the ordinary people too far? You should have. Ever read a book?

27

If cities in Europe and elsewhere can put together humane living environments for humans that are far less wealthy than this area there is just no damn excuse for Seattle and Washington state governments not to do it.

Could it be that plain old corruption is standing in the way?

29

@26-@28: Those countries also have national health-care, an important element of an adequate social-safety net. The US does not, and so arrest and diversionary court are the best way to get homeless persons into what social services we have. “Housing first” will do nothing without addressing the mental disorders which drive homelessness in Seattle.

In particular, @27, someone who owns a house in modern Seattle is not poor, has no claim to speak for the poor, and shouldn’t insult the working poor by implying they’re all just about to go hit the meth’ and live in the park.

@1 kristofarian: I share your concerns.

@18 pat L: Criminal investigations on RepubliKKKan members of Congress and SCROTUS? Bring it on!

@21 Dumbshit182: So----how is your roomie situation working out with raindrop and your little brother, Batshit?
Do you get a doggie treat every time you obediently parrot what your MAGAt master says?

@24 STII, re: @13 kristofarian's comment: This sounds like another solid case for taxing the insanely rich, already. More state and federal funding provided from the wealthiest of U.S. citizens paying their fair share, and not wiring their tax-free dividends to offshore accounts to the Cayman Islands, Switzerland, or elsewhere would solve the detrimental national debt ceiling issue. If properly redistributed these $billion$ could result in lessening the number of dangerously crazy, drug-fried, gun and / or knife wielding people whose serious mental health issues are being left unchecked from playing Michael Meyers out on our streets.

@10 Bauhaus I: I like your clever Sting take.
