I don't understand people with Ring cameras.

Outside your house, cool, you can see if someone swipes your packages and then have a video to give to police who can then tell you there's nothing they can do.

Inside your house, just ew, WTF are you thinking? Why would you voluntarily expose your private life to the creeps who manage Rings servers and DBs?

People are putting Ring cameras inside their houses? This makes me glad I'm kinda old and not super techy.

Wait until Q figures out that the Novavax vaccine chip is directly tied to your Ring camera.

@1, I don't have Ring because I am unwilling to give them the video data I collect.

I do have several cameras that run in conjunction with the flood lights. They have storage cards and are accessible across my wifi network. Every time one trips, I get an alert on my phone and can view the image. I can set the trip sensitivity so I get few false positves. It saves having to wander into the back yard to see if someone is trying to break into the basement or the detached garage.

If an alarm company calls SPD and says, "We have a door trip on customer's garage man door," SPD ain't coming. 99.99% of alarm trips of that type are caused by human error, usually by the legal occupant.

If I call SPD from my bedroom, or Arizona, and say, "I can see someone breaking into my garage on my camera system right now," its a Priority 1, Hot Burglary call. At current staffing levels, SPD might be there in 30 minutes.

@10, Both are probably not only are not going to maintain comments much longer, but are likely to joint the two or three "news" outlets per day dropping out of existence for lack of ad revenue.

It's interesting that they have always been advocates for higher wages, but have been some of the lowest paying print outlets in their markets, and non-union.

Just because you "say" you want to pay the peeps more, doesn't mean you can get advertisers or subscribers to pay more to produce the revenue to make that happen. Who knew?

the comments section of any online site are the dregs of our society, and all of them should be shut down. or else, people should be required to provide their actual name.

In an age of propaganda on both sides, comment sections provide an opportunity to pop the ideological bubble. While not perfect, they are important for presenting a range of opinions within one media site. In the absence of the comment section, we just have The Stranger propaganda machine.
