What portion of those "6 billion to 22 billion small mammals" are rats?

Morocco is an authoritarian country with a terrible human rights record that killed and purged hundreds of their own people in the modern era. No one in Spain was even alive when it added its last colony in 1885. Your criteria on how you root for teams might need some more work.

@4 -- nyt's a buck/wk
one-fifty for add-ons.
their Commentariat's
easily worth it to me.

Another argument for keeping our precious housebroken kitties inside: raccoons outside!
One possible solution: provide an enclosed deck or "catio" for your felines, with their own kitty door, for exit and re-entry. They can go outside, but would neither be harming birds nor harmed by natural predators.

Why the fuck isn't the Orange Turd getting cornholed raw for life in federal prison already?
The rest of us sure as shit would be, for committing 1/20th of the heinous crimes willfully committed by Trumpty Dumpty.

@2 No More Goldfish in Cages: I was wondering about that statistic, too.

@5 oldwhiteguy: I agree (surprise!) that the Southern resident orca protection law in Port Townsend---while indeed, a nice idea---should have more bite in order to really help restore Chinook salmon and our orca pod populations. "Non-binding" isn't enough. That's like offering a squirt gun to help extinguish the fire to a 30-storey building burning out of control. Or offering a band-aid to fix a leaky pipe about to burst.

To be fair, Morocco colonized Spain first, for longer (700-1400 CE), and for more of the country.

It's more like a France/Britain mutual successive claims on the other's territory than Portugal/Brazil, which is the WC final i want to see at this point.

@10: When she wrote "But my general rule of thumb is to always root against colonizer countries" she was obviously referring to World Cup teams. Stop being obtuse.

12

Morocco is also a teensy bit of a colonizer itself. Have a look at Western Sahara.

13

I'm more than slightly skeptical of those who take the "everyone's a colonizer" position, but if that's the way you want to go then we might as well rank all the colonizers by number of colonized people enslaved and/or killed in the process, and I think you'll find Spain a bit higher in the league tables than Morocco there.

14

Of course, but do you get any points for recency? Spain's empire collapsed ages ago. Morocco is in Western Sahara right this minute.

15

@14 And Morocco is backed by Spain in that conflict!

OK, yes, for an apples-to-apples comparison we'd need to have Spain repressing a present-day independence movement directly, and nothing like that has happened recently.

@10 Scottie Soft 'n' Brown: Gee, you're really boring as well as woefully ignorant. You must be a hoot at parties.

Rest in peace, all who were lost on Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, 1941 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Thank you and bless you, all who have served.
