Sydney Poiter, a Bahamian, born in the US, played an African in a British movie directed by a Hungarian in 1951.

“Cry, the Beloved Country”

But yeah, 2019. History has only just started.

2

What a typo on Sydney’s name. Poitier. Apologies.

Global black consciousness? No mention of Australian Aborigines, so not sure how you can call this global.

I'm indifferent on this movie and the "popular" horror movies coming out. They just don't have enough scares and gore. Although I'm looking more forward to this than his previous "Get Out" which was literally Skeleton Key meets 1970's Stepford Wives. Ari Aster is another director who I think is incredibly overrated and combining boring melodramas in his horror movies. Please just do us a favor and do something like Lucio Fulci or Tobe Hooper... Those guys made great horror.

Good Evening Charles,
I'm not sure this "global Africaness" is anything new. One of my favorite actors is Don Cheadle. He is an American who portrayed an African in the fine "Hotel Rwanda". Then there is the veteran Cameroonian-born actor, Yaphet Kotto who has played a variety of roles in film & TV. I am fairly certain Brit, Idris Elba has portrayed non-British blacks. Finally, there's the great English-born actor, David Oyelowo who portrayed Martin Luther King, Jr. in "Selma" and an American villain in "Captive". He also played an African prince in "A United Kingdom".

Africans, like their European and Asian brethren (and any combination thereof) in the diaspora have portrayed a wide variety of roles for quite awhile. That's not to diminish one iota the casting talents nor the talent of Messrs. Peele & Cooglan. It is to say that they stand on the shoulders of titans.

It was good movie for sure. When you consider this was only Peele’s second film it’s really good for a sophomore director. I think the best is yet to come.

Lupita Nyong'o is in another Australian horror/comedy later this year called LITTLE MONSTERS. It is very cute and she's great in it. Which, I guess, contributes something to the "global" part of this conversation.

Capitalist, Hollywood financial products financed and produced by white guys and Jewish guys are surely the vehicle for the awakening of the great global black consciousness.

We just have to get the profit margins for Disney/Blumhouse just a little bit higher, and the global black revolution/awakening will certainly happen.
