White people take over South Seattle: Unlike other parts of Seattle, the South End was one place where white people didn't make up the largest racial group. South Seattle, a haven for immigrant communities, had avoided that. At least until now. According to US Census data, white people now make up the largest racial group in South Seattle. However, though the group may be the largest, there are still more nonwhite people combined in South Seattle than white people.

Purdue Pharma is bankrupt: The drug manufacturer, which is believed to have jump-started the opioid crisis with its creation of OxyContin, is at the beginning of a death spiral. Purdue Pharma filed for bankruptcy on Sunday and is expected to go under. Thousands of plaintiffs are expecting a payout from Pharma's tactics of pushing OxyContin and, in turn, wreaking havoc on communities across the United States. In order to fund those payouts, the billionaire family behind Pharma, the Sacklers, may have to throw in some cash.

Someone is papering Columbia City with racist flyers: Racist and hateful flyers are, unfortunately, somewhat of the norm around Puget Sound these days. Most recently, Columbia City has been covered with them—many are taped to Black Lives Matter posters. Pat Murakami, former city council candidate and current president of the South Seattle Crime Prevention Council, is telling people not to touch them in case police can gather prints from the signs.

Have you seen Sally Bagshaw's bike? Someone jacked the Seattle City Council member's bike, and Bagshaw would really like it back.

A bad weekend on the light rail: On Friday night, there was a shooting in the Westlake light rail station. One person was killed and two others were injured. Police are still searching for the suspect. On Sunday, a man was stabbed on a train at the University of Washington station. He was allegedly stabbed in the back by a man he didn't know. He only suffered minor injuries. The King County Sheriff's Department is investigating.

The Seahawks won yesterday: It was a tough victory against the Steelers, a team we have a bitter rivalry with because of some bad refereeing in a Super Bowl or something? This is what I am told.

Are we going to war with Iran? Not yet, but sit tight. This weekend, major Saudi Arabian oil facilities were attacked. Despite the fact that the Houthi militia of Yemen took credit for the attacks, Trump asserted that the attacks originated from either Iran or Iraq. He claimed that the US was "locked and loaded" but would consult with Saudi Arabia first. A military spokesman from Saudi Arabia has said that the attack used Iranian weapons and did not originate from Yemen.

General Motors employees strike: 50,000 members of the United Automobile Workers union are demanding better wages and that GM reopen idled plants. But that is easier said than done. Though GM performed well in North America last year, demand for vehicles is dropping and three plants have idled as a result. This is the first walkout of this size since 2007. Anyone else feeling some foreshadowing?

Someone stole a museum's toilet: The Blenheim Palace's toilet, called America, was part of an exhibit on Maurizio Cattelan. The toilet was made out of 18 karat gold. It is believed to be worth more than $4 million. It was stolen. The crime left behind a great deal of flooding since the toilet was hooked up to the plumbing. At least two vehicles are believed to have been used in the theft. One 66-year-old man has been arrested so far but not charged.

Whistleblower Edward Snowden wants asylum in France: He's asking French president Emmanuel Macron to grant it to him.

Cornell Medical School is trying: If you qualify for financial aid at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, the school will cover everything. That means tuition, books, housing, and food.

Ashy: This Japanese volcano is spewing.
