@1, Criterion waited on Blu-ray because they wanted to see which HD format would win the market share wars. They didn't want to be outdated from the start. Just like with Betamax vs. VHS, Blu-ray won over the superior HD DVD format, but that's all in the past.

I <3 Criterion. Years ago, I bought a 4 foot wide by 7 foot high display rack from a Blockbuster that was closing down, for $25. It holds 500+ of my Criterion titles, some of which I bought and haven't even opened them up from the shrink wrap yet.
