Many of the New Deal programs that had helped the rural poor were still in place when he has born, and the Great Society programs, many of which also targeted the rural poor, would go into effect by the time he was fifteen or so. None of those programs excluded poor whites-though the New Deal often excluded poor blacks. In what universe is anyone or anything progressive or BIPOC to blame for anything he or his family went through?
